|Today is the day to make positive changes and take care of "you"! Hey there! My name is Laura Stark and I have over 22 years of experience in the field of counseling. I obtained a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from Amberton University in North Dallas. I became a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor in 1998. The majority of my work has been in the settings of Intensive Outpatient/Partial Hospitalizations Programs and Residential Treatment Centers. I spent 5 years as a Special Education teacher coordinating the Behavioral Unit for emotionally troubled students at a junior high in North Dallas prior to relocating to the Houston area. I have also taught single and divorce parenting classes. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor since 2007 and enjoy working with both practicum students and LPC Interns.
In my practice, I support clients in building useful, healthy coping strategies to manage life's struggles and to understand that it is "okay" to be human. I believe that we benefit from giving ourselves permission to acknowledge how we feel as part of being a unique individual. It is then that we can learn the coping skills to move forward with hope and positivity. I believe that sometimes the worst neighborhood that we can be "hanging out" in is our own heads. My therapeutic process focuses on assisting clients in gaining self-awareness while working through life's challenges. I assist clients in reframing negative self-talk to healthier, more re-affirming self-talk.
My clinical interests include the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, self-esteem issues, relational issues, couples counseling, divorce recovery, dual-diagnosis, and adjustment to life cycle changes.
